Be clever, play cunning, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. Many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwards, he established the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
