Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the proper way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French headed south and discovered safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. A good many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
