Be clever, play brilliant, and pickup craps the correct way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French relocated south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the country. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
