Be a Master of Craps – Pointers and Plans: The History of Craps

Be clever, play cunning, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he developed the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
