Be brilliant, play smart, and discover how to play craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard through a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French relocated down south and discovered sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and across the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he invented the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
